Florida Like it Used to Be
112 NE Cholokka Blvd
Micanopy, FL 32667
Contact: Monica Fowler

The town was named after the Seminole Indian Chief Micanopy when it was founded in 1821 after Florida was obtained by the United States of America from Spain. This would make Micanopy the oldest inland town in Florida. Currently Micanopy is a quiet historic town that is a destination for visitors and locals to shop, people interested in history, and those who just want to stroll and relax.

With Micanopy’s 17 shops there is something for everyone: antiques, jewelry, crafts, and fine art. If you are interested in food, the Micanopy community has plenty of choices. These include Café’s that offer sandwiches, soups, BBQ, pizza, Italian cuisine, ice cream, pastries, and coffee. Most days of the week you can relax and listen to live outdoor music that is played by Micanopy’s local musicians. Extend your stay and visit a Bed and Breakfast or other Air B&Bs. You might also enjoy visiting the Micanopy Historical Society Museum (Wednesday through Sunday: 1 to 4pm), Historic Cemeteries, or the Native American Heritage Preserve (Monday through Thursday: 8am to 5pm).

Micanopy is easily located just off of I-75 between Ocala and Gainesville Florida.
